There is no single 'correct' English sound. British, American, Australian, Indian and many other accents all count as real English. Once you learn how accents differ, understanding them becomes a skill you can train — not luck.

An accent is the particular way a group of people pronounces English. The same words can sound different — 'water' is 'waw-ter' for many Americans and 'waw-tuh' for many British speakers.

Which English accent should I learn to understand first?
Choose the one you hear most in the media you enjoy — often American or British. Build a strong base with that accent, then add others gradually. There is no single correct accent to aim for.
Why is Indian or Australian English hard for me even though I know the words?
