A common mistake

The zombie was invented by Hollywood in the last century.→The idea reached film from Haitian folklore, where a zombi was a person robbed of will and made to labour — a figure whose meaning is inseparable from the history of slavery on the island. Computing borrowed the word too: a zombie is a machine quietly taken over and used remotely without its owner's knowledge.
