A common mistake

A sparkler is safe enough for a small child, since the flame is tiny.→The sparks leave the wire at something close to a thousand degrees — hot enough to burn skin instantly and to set light to a synthetic sleeve. Sparklers cause more burns among children than any other firework: one per hand, held at arm's length, gloves if possible, and straight into a bucket of water when it dies, because the wire stays scorching long afterwards.
