A ligature is the same as a ligament.→Different words. A ligament joins bone to bone in the body. A ligature is something that ties — in surgery the thread tying off a vessel, and in typography two letters drawn as one shape, as in fi and fl, so the f's hood does not collide with the dot of the i.
