A common mistake
Isotopes of an element are slightly different elements.→They are the same element. What identifies an element is its number of protons, and isotopes share that exactly — they differ only in neutrons, so they weigh differently while behaving the same chemically. Carbon-12 and carbon-14 are both carbon.
