How to Say I Love You in Bengali
The sentence is ami tomake bhalobashi (আমি তোমাকে ভালোবাসি) — literally 'I to-you love'. Bengali puts the verb last, which is why the word order looks inverted to an English speaker. It is a strong sentence, said far less casually than the English one.

What a phrasebook will not tell you
It is a heavier sentence than the English one
English 'love you' is said at the end of phone calls, to friends, about food. Bhalobashi is not. Between a couple it is a real declaration; said too early or too casually it sounds odd rather than sweet. For everyday warmth, tomake amar bhalo lage ('I like you') is what fits.
Families do not usually say it out loud
Bengali parents and children love each other without the sentence. A Bangladeshi mother is far more likely to ask whether you have eaten — kheyechho? — than to say bhalobashi, and that question carries the same meaning. Second-generation readers often notice this the other way round: their parents never said it, and it was never absent.
Word order, and why it looks backwards
Bengali is subject-object-verb: ami (I) tomake (to you) bhalobashi (love). English is subject-verb-object. This is the single biggest structural difference between the two languages, and it is why word-for-word translation between them produces nonsense in both directions.

Use tomake (from tumi, the familiar 'you'). Apnake is the respectful form and sounds strange in a declaration of love — formal in a way that undercuts what you are saying.
